Denver Parks and Recreation has partnered with 16 metro area nurseries to offer 10 percent discount coupons for deciduous trees as part of the Cooling Campaign, a component of the Tree by Tree: The Mile High Million initiative. The coupons can be used anytime before October 31; downloadable/printable copies are available at Greenprint Denver’s official website.

While you’re at it, surf on over to Denver Parks and Rec’s playground survey. It has been more than a decade since Parks and Rec surveyed and evaluated the approximately 150 public playgrounds that are located throughout our city. A year-long, citywide playground master-planning process is now underway, and your input is wanted. The survey will be online for the rest of this month; a draft version of the Playground Master Plan is anticipated in late fall 2007, with project completion anticipated in late spring 2008.

A final parks-related item: The Office of Cultural Affairs wants your opinions regarding the proposed Denver Cultural Center at Civic Center Park. The first of three public meetings on the subject is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 11; it will run from 4 to 6 p.m. and take place at the Cable Center, 2000 Buchtel Blvd., on the University of Denver campus. If you’re going to attend, you’ll need to RSVP; write to doca@ci.denver.co.us. Keep abreast of the meeting outcomes at denverculturefeed.org.
