This is a tough holiday season for a lot of families in District 9 — and across the state and the country. Good time to share some time, money, and / or effort with those who are struggling this autumn.
One good way to help is to volunteer or make a donation to the Aguirre family’s 24th annual Thanksgiving Feast for the Needy at Rosa Linda’s Mexican Cafe. The feast begins at 11 a.m. Thursday and runs until 3 p.m. at Tejon and 33rd Avenue. Call (303) 455-0608 to find out what type of help they might need.
The Denver Rescue Mission serves a Thanksgiving meal as well, and Judy will be volunteering there. It’s likely that the Mission’s volunteer rolls are filled up, but monetary donations are always welcome. Call (303) 297-1815 to find out how you can help.
If you’re looking for something green to do this holiday weekend, you can bring your leftover cooking oil from Thursday’s festivities to the Holiday RecycOil. Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises, this has become an annual event conducted in partnership with several municipal governments. Collection will take place on Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at locations throughout the Front Range. The Denver collection point is just outside District 9 at 1460 Bannock Street.
