Help Wanted

The Latina Initiative is hiring four canvassers for a nonpartisan education and Get-Out-Vote Effort in the 2009 election. It’s a temporary position that pays $12.50 an hour (no benefits), with 20 to 30 hours of work per week. The work begins immediately and will end on Election Day — November 3, 2009. Job responsibilities

  • Door knocking for shifts of three or more hours per day
  • Recording of data in both written and database format
  • Working with Latina Initiative staff and other canvassers in preparing for canvasses

Applicants must be able to do lots of walking and spend long hours on their feet. They also should be competent in working with Microsoft Office, have enthusiasm about engaging voters, possess excellent communication skills, be able to work well with diverse groups of people, and have experience in canvassing.

Judy is looking for help too —- volunteer help. On October 22 — two weeks from today — Judy and a group of community partners will be leading a volunteer effort to construct a new playground at Chaffee Park, 44th and Tejon. Judy is co-sponsoring this initiative with Denver Parks and Rec, The Park People, Home Depot, and KABOOM. The work will get started at 8 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m.; if you can spend part or all of the day helping out, please get in touch with Judy’s office.
